Small Bookstores Crippled

Two stories of note:

Washington Heights Bookstore Raffling for Rent

Caliope Bookstore owner Ceasar Gonzalez has been evicted from his Dyckman Street location, but he's trying to raise money to pay off the $36,000 he owes to the landlord - Fireside Pentecostal Assembly on Thayer Street.

Helping Homeless Ex-Bookseller:

Portland, OR-area bookseller Stephanie Griffin closed her store Twenty-third Avenue Books in January and then became homeless. "Startled neighbors discovered this in June" as "Griffin had started panhandling outside her old store," Willamette Week writes.
